Dance Majic at 50

In 2025, Dance Majic, Dorset’s longest-running dance school (that we are aware of), celebrates its monumental 50th anniversary! Established in 1975 by Peggie and Lynda Toohey as Dorset Dance and Fitness Centre, Dance Majic has been a cornerstone of the Parkstone, Poole, and Bournemouth communities, inspiring generations to embrace the joy of movement and dance.

From its humble beginnings, Dance Majic has grown into a vibrant hub offering dance classes for all ages and abilities—from toddlers as young as two to spirited dancers in their 90s. The school’s motto, “Walk in… Dance Out!”, created by Lynda’s father Bill, reflects its unwavering commitment to making dance accessible, fun, rewarding, and inclusive for all.

Lynda Toohey: A Legacy of Excellence

Lynda Toohey, founder of Dance Majic, is not only the heart of the school but also an esteemed figure in the dance world. A Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and a highly qualified and experienced instructor, Lynda has dedicated her life to nurturing dancers of all ages and abilities.

For five decades, Lynda has inspired students with her exceptional teaching and deep passion for dance. She continues to play an active role at Dance Majic, teaching classes and mentoring the next generation of dancers and instructors. Her dedication to maintaining the school’s high standards while fostering a warm, welcoming environment has made Dance Majic a cherished Dance School within the community of Parkstone.

Continuing to Thrive for the Future Generation

Under current principal Pauline Vines since 2023, a lifelong Dance Majic student who started at the tender age of two and has been teaching for 19 years, the school continues to thrive. Pauline works closely with Lynda to ensure the school remains true to its roots while embracing modern trends. Together, they’ve introduced exciting additions such as Heels and Acrobatic Arts, alongside beloved classics like, Ballroom, Latin, Freestyle, Rock n Roll, Street, Dance and commercial Dance . The reintroduction of competition classes has further solidified Dance Majic’s reputation as a hub of achievement and excellence.

Over the past five decades, Dance Majic has touched the lives of thousands, helping dancers achieve countless milestones—from earning their first Rosette to gaining UCAS points through advanced exams with the prestigious IDTA. The school offers a wide range of classes, including, beginners to advance dances, private tuition and bespoke wedding choreography, catering to every passion and occasion.

With over 100 current students, Dance Majic is more vibrant than ever. Its legacy stands as a testament to the power of dedication, community, and the enduring magic of dance.
